Switzerland successfully tested blockchain in voting system

In the Swiss town of Zug, the municipal elections using the blockchain technology were held for the first time last week.

Despite a rather low turnout (among the 240 citizens who had the access to the voting only 72 took part in it) the experiment was recognized to be successful and most of the participants enjoyed this way of voting. The voting was on some minor municipal matters.

Switzerland has been looking for alternative ways of voting for some time already. There are a few projects dedicated to making the electoral procedure transparent and tamper‐proof.

Blockchain technology while used in the voting procedure allows the participants to be aware of the number of votes, and if there is an attempt to change, delete or add a vote, the fraud will be immediately visible.
